Avalanche Course

Learn the essential skills for safer skiing in the back-country.


Service Description

On the first day we focus on basic skills with avalanche safety equipment, as well as the theory to be able to evaluate the avalanche report and make informed decisions. The second day builds on the first day with more advanced skills with the avalanche transciever, as well as more practical work making decisions in the terrain. Both days offer a mix of theory and practical learning. Book 1 or 2 days. Overnight available at Sust Lodge Hospental. Day 1: - SMT Winter 1, Avalache Safety - Introduction to standard avalanche equipment - Interpreting the avalanche bulletin - Learning dangers of off piste skiing - Recognising the 4 typical avalanche situations - Reducing risk - Completing a basic avalanche rescue Day 2: - Practical learning in the back-country - Orientation / Slope angle - Tour planning regarding avalanche risk - Grafic reduction method - Tactics to reduce risk in the back-country - Avalanche rescue with multiple victums ​ Fitness: Intermediate (30 min boot pack) ​ Technical: Intermediate (comfortable skiing 35 degrees in good conditions) Equipment: - Off piste skis (with skins if possible) - Avalanche Transceiver - Shovel and probe - Water and snack - Airbag and helmet recommended​ ​​ Rental Equipment Available: ​ Please reserve @ Imholzsport Andermatt ​ Meeting Point: 08.30 at Imholzsport Gemsstock Price per Person: - 180.- CHF / 1 Day - 320.- CHF / 2 Day Included: - Guiding in an open group (4 - 8 people) - UIAGM mountainguide / aspirant guide ​ Not Included: - Ski pass - Accommodation - Rental Equipment - Transportation - Food and Drinks - Insurance (accident, mountain rescue, travel, illness and all other insurances are the responsibility of the participant) We recommend to be a member of "Rega" Swiss rescue service. The course takes place when 4 participants register.
