Rope techniques for glacier course
1 day - all about what it takes for crevasse rescue
Service Description
If you want to move into high alpine terrain, glaciers become a central topic. This course focuses on how to travel safely on glaciers and how to use your rope effectively - especially to prevent a fall into a crevasse and – if it happens, how to get out! This course is all about learning how to build a pulley and other rope techniques. Since this is a one-day course and we want to spend as much time as possible practicing rope techniques, we won’t be on an actual glacier. Instead, we’ll use suitable training terrain with snow drifts and flat areas that allow for realistic and effective practice. Course Content: - Learn how to tie into the rope properly - Form and manage rope teams for glacier travel - Practice movement as a rope team on the glacier - Building snow and ice anchors - Setting up pulley systems for rescue - Self-rescue techniques: ascending the rope with prusiks or mechanical devices To participate in this course, you should: - Be comfortable moving on skis in alpine winter terrain - Have basic ski touring experience, including skinning and descending in variable snow conditions - Be able to manage a full day outdoors in cold, snowy conditions - No prior rope or crevasse rescue experience is required - we start with the fundamentals!
