Urner Haute Route, andermatt guides

Discover one of the finest and steepest haute routes in Switzerland.

The Urner Haute route is for skiers! With smaller group size we have the freedom to explore. Most days start with a long climb up south slopes, and finish with a rewarding descent down steep north faces. Evenings are spent in high alpine huts and remote mountain guesthouses.

March-April recommended for private bookings

Day 1

Starting in Realp (1538m), we sort out our equipment and make a leisurely climb up to Schafberg (2590m), then a relaxed descent and climb back up to Albertheim-Hütte (2543m).

Day 2

We start the day with a short descent, before climbing the Lochberg (3074m). A challenging ascent on skis, then with crampons and ice axe. A beautiful descent to the Göscheneralp brings us to the Gasthaus Göscheneralp (1580m) for a relaxed evening and excellent meals.

Day 3

After a good coffee we make an early start and ascend to the Schinstock (3161m). From Schinstock we enjoy a beautiful descent to the Voralp-Hütte (2126m). The east facing slopes often hold the best snow of the tour!

Day 4

A long glacier ascent brings us to the Sustenhorn (3503m), the highpoint of the tour. The classic Steingletscher descent winds between crevasses and seracs before reaching the Steingletscher Hotel (1865m).

Day 5

From Steingletscher we ascend up over the Fünffingerstöck (2993m) and, if conditions permit, a steep descent brings us to the Wenden Glacier. One last short skin brings us to Grassen Biwak (2647m), followed by a beautiful descent under the imposing walls of the Titlis to the Engelberg valley.
