Discover one of the finest and steepest haute routes in Switzerland.

​

The Urner Haute route is for skiers! With smaller group size we have the freedom to explore. Most days start with a long climb up south slopes, and finish with a rewarding descent down steep north faces. Evenings are spent in high alpine huts and remote mountain guesthouses.

March-April recommended for private bookings

​

Day 1

Starting in Realp (1538m), we sort out our equipment and make a leisurely climb up to Schafberg (2590m), then a relaxed descent and climb back up to Albertheim-Hütte (2543m).

 

Day 2

We start the day with a short descent, before climbing the Lochberg (3074m). A challenging ascent on skis, then with crampons and ice axe. A beautiful descent to the Göscheneralp brings us to the Gasthaus Göscheneralp (1580m) for a relaxed evening and excellent meals.

 

Day 3

After a good coffee we make an early start and ascend to the Schinstock (3161m). From Schinstock we enjoy a beautiful descent to the Voralp-Hütte (2126m). The east facing slopes often hold the best snow of the tour!

 

Day 4

A long glacier ascent brings us to the Sustenhorn (3503m), the highpoint of the tour. The classic Steingletscher descent winds between crevasses and seracs before reaching the Steingletscher Hotel (1865m).

 

Day 5

From Steingletscher we ascend up over the Fünffingerstöck (2993m) and, if conditions permit, a steep descent brings us to the Wenden Glacier. One last short skin brings us to Grassen Biwak (2647m), followed by a beautiful descent under the imposing walls of the Titlis to the Engelberg valley.

 

Fitness: Advanced, up to 1500m ascent per day / Technical: Advanced, descents up to 40° in good conditions. Moderate mountaineering skills (crampons and ice axe)

Equipment: Complete ski touring equipment including crampons, ice axe and harness

  • Insurance (accident, mountain rescue, travel, illness and all other insurances are the responsibility of the participant) We recommend to be a member of "Rega" Swiss rescue service.
